Answers to Your Common Physiotherapy Questions

Frequently Asked Physiotherapy Questions

  • What should I expect from my first consultation?

At your initial consultation, your Physiotherapist will take a detailed history of your injury and other relevant previous injuries and listen to your specific concerns. They will then perform a comprehensive assessment to determine the cause of your problem and explain your injury/condition and what needs to be done to help. The appropriate treatment will be carried out to get you feeling better as soon as possible, and home exercises will be provided to help you maintain your improvement. Your referring doctor will send a brief letter outlining the assessment results and the proposed rehab program.

  • Do I need a doctor’s referral?

A Doctor’s referral is unnecessary except if your case is managed by WorkCover, Department of Veteran’s Affairs, Compulsory Third Party Insurance or the Medicare EPC program.

  • Can I claim directly from my health fund?

Springwood Physiotherapy Centre offers the HICAPS service to our clients whereby individuals with “Extras” cover can claim part of their treatment fee at the time of their consultation, leaving only the gap as an out-of-pocket expense.

Specific benefits vary depending on the health fund and your level of coverage, and more information can be obtained from your private health insurer.

  • How long will a treatment last?

45-60 minutes should be allowed for the initial consultation to provide enough time for a comprehensive assessment of your injury. Subsequent treatment consults are usually 40-45 minutes, depending on the complexity of your injury/injuries.

  • What should I wear to my treatment session?

You are advised to wear loose-fitting clothes that allow freedom of movement and easy access to your injured body parts. We provide a relaxed, comfortable environment where your privacy is always respected.

  • Is there parking available?

Our complex offers a large car park with several parking spaces immediately outside our premises. We provide a disabled car park only 2m from our front door. Our rooms are fully wheelchair accessible.

  • Will I get exercises to perform at home?

A home exercise program is integral to your rehab strategy and is provided to all our clients. A selection of exercises tailored to your specific needs will be devised to accelerate recovery and prepare for a full return to pre-injury status.
